I have a couple of trusted guides if you're looking but nervous! (For North America)
ABSOLUTE CLASSIC and a must have if you're in the American west! This one is really really fun & funky, and beloved by mushroom enthusiasts.
They make versions for other regions as well! This series is great for beginners; they organize sections and pages to make ID as easy as possible, and include ways to spot lookalikes. It's also written in accessible language, and includes lots of fun facts! I loved using this with the kids I taught; once they figured out how to find stuff in it, they always wanted to have it and ID all the fungi we came across!
Tried & true! Not as beginner friendly, but very solid and informative.
VERY comprehensive, not super beginner friendly, but good to have around if you're curious! This book is enormous & is very likely the most comprehensive guide you'll find. And it's enormous. I cannot stress enough how fucking large this book is.
Sorry for hijacking, op, but perhaps folks have recs for other areas to add?
